European Film Centre Camerimage
-Colliding Stars

Inspired by the enchanting realm of cinema, the proposed design aims to rekindle Torun as the epicentre of the film and entertainment industry. Through colliding of three distinct architectural elements, the vision transcends traditional notions of mere buildings and evolves into a dynamic space for year-round entertainment and engagement. Notably, the non-film festival seasons offer unique opportunities, transforming the venue into a winter ski slope on the roof and an integrated landscape seamlessly connecting with the adjacent public park during summer.

The architectural 'Blocks' serve as functional hubs, housing various programmatic elements of the site. The 'Carpet' acts as a connecting layer, seamlessly linking the city and the Grand Square. Meanwhile, the 'Slopes' introduce dynamic elements, fostering activity and ensuring the Entertainment and Cultural Film Center (ECFC) remains a vibrant hub throughout every season, effectively managing crowd flow and vehicle traffic.

Incorporating the neighbouring parks and city spaces directly into the site context, the proposal establishes a nexus that straddles the boundary between Torun's medieval heritage and its burgeoning modern identity. The design's material palette strategically intertwines the historic charm of old brick elements with contemporary features such as stone cladding, glass, and LED accents. Through elegant twists and transformations, the forms coalesce into a continuous narrative, projecting Torun's cinematic future onto the canvas of its evolving cityscape.
